About James

While playing rugby in France, James’ passion for building began through the unique opportunity to train as a “cooper” in the prestigious Vicard Tonnellerie in Cognac, France.

Here he learnt the art of building and repairing cognac barrels, using traditional hand tools and techniques.

This grounding in the dying art of the cooper fostered James‘ respect for the durability and flexibility of timber as a building material and inspired his progression on a path to crafting beautiful homes, built to last.

On his return to Australia, James followed his heart and began a career in building. He honed his skills with both small and medium sized, high-end residential and commercial construction companies and learned quickly the importance of the saying “do it once and do it well”.

In 1999, James established his own building company – JHBC – with an ethos founded on craftsmanship and durability. James and his team of professionals are serious about customer satisfaction, with James managing every project from start to finish. This not only ensures quality control but also consistently high outcomes and happy clients.
